Reset & Rebuild

A calm, supportive way to bring your bookkeeping up to date and rebuild a system you can trust.

Your bookkeeping has been sitting untouched for months.

Maybe you've been meaning to catch up. Maybe you've tried a few times and gotten overwhelmed. Maybe you've been waiting for the "right time" that never seems to come.

You have your bank statements. You have your receipts. You know what happened in your business.

You just need someone to actually do the bookkeeping work.

The anxiety builds every week you don't address it. You can't answer basic financial questions. You're making decisions based on your checking balance instead of real data. Tax season is approaching and you're not ready.

And the longer you wait, the heavier it gets.

You don't need another tutorial or template. You need someone to take this off your plate and handle it, calmly, thoroughly, and without judgment.

Every engagement starts the same way

Before any cleanup work begins, I look at your file.

That's the Foundations Assessment. A full diagnostic review of where your books actually stand, what needs to happen, and what it will cost. It applies in full toward your cleanup work, so it isn't an added expense. It's the step that makes an honest number possible.

I don't quote anyone before I've seen the file. Not out of caution, but because a quote given without looking is a guess, and guesses are how people end up with a number that moves halfway through the project.

This means you don't have to figure out whether you're a good fit before you reach out. You don't have to know how far behind you are, or whether your situation counts as complicated, or whether you've done something that will be embarrassing to explain. That's my job, and it's what the Assessment is for.

What Reset & Rebuild Is

Reset & Rebuild is the cleanup work itself. When the Assessment finds that your books need to be brought current, this is what happens next.

It isn't coaching, and it isn't teaching you a new system. This is execution.

You provide the bank statements and receipts. I handle the bookkeeping catch-up: categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, organizing your records, and rebuilding a system that makes sense for your business now.

The goal: Get you from "months behind and avoiding it" to "current, accurate, and able to move forward."

No rushing. No shame. Just a calm, clear path forward.

What We'll Do Together

Your Assessment sets the exact scope. In most engagements, that includes:

Complete bookkeeping catch-up

  • Every transaction categorized accurately
  • Monthly reconciliation across the full catch-up period
  • A clear, consistent categorization structure

System organization

  • Review and organization of your existing financial data
  • A chart of accounts built for your business, not a generic template
  • A clean, current file you can hand to your tax professional without apology

Review and guidance

  • Conversations to walk through your numbers
  • Clear answers to your questions, without judgment
  • Guidance on next steps, whether that's ongoing bookkeeping or maintaining the system yourself

Platform support

If your current bookkeeping platform isn't serving your business well, I'll tell you. When it makes sense, I can move you onto a system that creates less friction, such as Kick, as part of the rebuild. Any platform change is discussed thoughtfully and never forced.

The goal: Leave you with books you can trust and a system that no longer feels fragile.

What I Don't Do

There are a few things I decline at every level of my practice, and I'd rather name them plainly than let you find out later:

  • Sales tax
  • Inventory and ecommerce
  • Tax filing (I work directly with the CPA or tax preparer who files your returns, so your books and your filings stay in sync)

Most firms bolt these on as add-ons and do them adequately at best. I'd rather be honest that they aren't my depth, and point you toward someone who does them well. If your business needs one of them, I'll make the referral myself.

There's one more, and it's a matter of fairness rather than expertise. Sometimes the work a file honestly requires costs more than the business can reasonably carry. When that's true, I'll say so and help you find a better-sized option, rather than quote you a number that would strain you. You'll get that answer early, not after you've committed.

Why the Assessment Comes First

Many business owners believe their books just need "catching up," when the reality underneath is different. Two examples from my practice:

Case 1: "I thought my books were ready for ongoing support"

A business owner reached out to begin ongoing bookkeeping. They had a bookkeeper who'd been maintaining their books for over a year, and they believed everything was current and accurate.

When I looked at their QuickBooks file, I found 18 balance sheet accounts that hadn't been reconciled in 16 months. Their bookkeeper had been clearing bank feeds and reporting the work as done. No actual reconciliation had happened.

The difference matters more than it sounds:

  • Clearing feeds takes about 30 minutes and requires no accounting knowledge
  • Actually reconciling takes hours per account, and requires the expertise to match statements, identify discrepancies, and verify accuracy

They had been paying for professional bookkeeping and receiving incomplete work, with no way to know the difference. Cost to correct 16 months of missed reconciliations: $4,500.

Case 2: "Reports are always late, but I figured that's how it is"

A law firm owner knew their office manager was struggling. Reports were consistently late and cash flow information was unreliable. They kept hoping it would improve.

The Assessment found that transactions were being deleted to "fix" errors, which repeatedly severed the sync with their billing software and created hours of manual rework. Sales transactions were duplicated, inflating revenue. The books were inaccurate enough that the owner may have overpaid taxes.

Because they started with the Assessment, they understood the full picture before committing to anything. They chose to proceed with an $8,800 cleanup knowing exactly what they were getting and why it was necessary. Without it, they might have expected two or three thousand for a simple catch-up and hit a very unpleasant surprise midway through.

Neither of these owners did anything wrong. They trusted someone who told them the work was handled. That's not a failure of judgment, it's what happens when the person doing your books doesn't know what proper bookkeeping requires. Looking first is how we make sure you're not in that position.

Investment

Reset & Rebuild is priced to your file, and the price is set by your Foundations Assessment.

Every backlog is different. A file with one account and clean deposits isn't the same work as a file with three payment processors and a year of untouched reconciliations, and pricing them the same would mean either overcharging one of you or shortchanging the work.

So the Assessment comes first, and it produces a real number, in writing, before any cleanup begins.

What that means for you:

  • The $750 Assessment applies in full toward your cleanup work
  • Your quote is based on what's actually in the file, not an estimate
  • If something unexpected turns up, I'll pause and talk with you before continuing
  • There's no version of this where the number changes on you mid-project

What Happens After

Once your bookkeeping is clean and your system is rebuilt, you have options.

Continue with ongoing bookkeeping

Many clients move into the monthly bookkeeping program, priced to the complexity of their file. It's how you stay current and never end up here again.

Maintain the system yourself

You can take what we've built and run it yourself. You'll have a clean file and a chart of accounts that fits your business, which is most of what makes staying current possible. Journey Pathway is free, and it's where the teaching lives: workshops, tools, and a community of people doing the same thing.

Come back when you need to

Some people prefer to catch up periodically rather than carry ongoing support. You're welcome to return whenever that's true.

There's no pressure to continue. I'll tell you honestly what level of support your business actually needs, including when the answer is "none for now."

Bring me one decision

Clean books tend to surface the question you couldn't ask before. When a real decision turns up and you want it thought through on your actual numbers, Open Your Books is one working session, booked as needed. No ongoing commitment.

What You'll Leave With

A foundation you can rely on:

  • Clean, current books you can actually trust
  • Accounts properly reconciled and verified
  • A bookkeeping system that fits your business

Relief:

  • No more guilt about being behind
  • No more dread about tax time
  • No more decisions made without real data

Clarity:

  • You understand where your business stands
  • You can answer questions about your own numbers
  • You have what you need to make informed decisions

You'll finally be able to breathe again.

A Note from Stacy

Hi, I'm Stacy Luft, Founder of CEO Business Balance.

I built Reset & Rebuild because I kept meeting capable business owners who'd fallen behind, not through carelessness, but because they were busy running their businesses and life got in the way.

They didn't need judgment. They didn't need another tutorial. They needed someone to handle the catch-up so they could move forward.

I've spent more than thirty years in financial operations, and the thing I'd most want you to know is this: whatever is in your file, I have almost certainly seen it before. The state of your books is information, not a verdict on you. It tells me what work needs doing. That's all it tells me.

"In my world, being a CEO means being a Calm, Empowered Owner of your business, your numbers, and your decisions. Reset & Rebuild helps you reclaim that ownership with steadiness and clarity."

Let's get your books current so you can focus on what you do best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to do the Foundations Assessment first?

Yes. Every engagement starts there, without exception. It's how scope and pricing get set honestly, and it applies in full toward your cleanup work, so it isn't an extra cost. It's the step that makes an accurate number possible.

What if I'm only a few months behind?

You don't need to be a full year behind for this to be worth doing. If your bookkeeping is a few months out and you'd rather hand it off than dig through it yourself, this is exactly the right work. And if the Assessment finds your books are in better shape than you thought, I'll tell you that too, and point you toward something lighter.

What if I'm not sure how far behind I am?

That's very common, and it's not something you need to solve before reaching out. Not knowing is one of the most reliable signs that looking at the file is the right first step.

What if my situation is more complicated than most?

Complexity doesn't disqualify you, it just changes the scope, and the Assessment is what measures it. The only things I decline outright are sales tax, inventory and ecommerce, and tax filing, and I'll refer you to someone good for any of those.

Will you handle everything, or will I need to be involved?

I handle the bookkeeping work. There will be moments where I need context only you have, like what a particular payment was for, but I'll ask clearly and in small batches rather than sending you a spreadsheet of two hundred questions.

What happens if you find something unexpected partway through?

I pause and talk with you before continuing. We'll discuss what I'm seeing, what it means, and what your options are. Nothing proceeds without your understanding and consent, and you'll never receive a charge you didn't agree to.

Does this include tax preparation or filing?

No. I don't prepare or file tax returns, that's a different specialty. What I do is work directly with the CPA or tax preparer who files yours, so they get clean, reliable books and you're not stuck in the middle translating between us.

What happens after the cleanup is done?

Your choice. Some clients move into ongoing monthly bookkeeping to stay current. Others maintain the system themselves, sometimes with Journey Pathway for support. Others come back periodically. I'll tell you honestly what I think your business needs, but there's no pressure to continue.

Is this a good fit if my books feel emotionally heavy right now?

Yes. This work is done with care and at a pace that doesn't overwhelm you. If your numbers feel charged or shameful to look at, that's a common experience and not a reason to wait. You're not behind. You're at a point where support would help.

How do I get started?

Book a discovery call. We'll talk through where things stand, and if an Assessment is the right next step, we'll get it scheduled.
